Career profile

Sarah Woolford

Accumulations Product Coordinator, CBH Group (Perth)

During my high school years I chose a business pathway, completing Year 12 and choosing not to sit the university entrance exams. Instead I chose a longer route, attending TAFE to study a Diploma in Business Management, and halfway through I decided to begin my career in finance/banking.  Then my husband and I decided to start a family (3 x kids), and continue on with working/studying for my undergraduate degree in Business Commerce, majoring in Business Law & Finance.

Having completed my degree with High Distinction, I pondered my future career prospects as a mature undergraduate, looking to refocus and begin my career again at the age of 34.

This is the interesting part. I didn’t focus on a particular industry, instead I focused on my personal values and aligning them with an organisation, and feeling a strong desire to want to make a difference; not just return a profit to shareholders.

So I applied for a graduate role at a company that aligned to my values – Commitment, Courage and Collaboration, while also ensuring it operated with a co-operative structure. You may ask what does a co-operative structure have to do with the grain industry. Well, it means that you are working for the growers whereby you are given the ability to return value directly to the individuals that utilise the whole CBH supply chain, rather than working for an organisation that is owned by shareholders looking to make profits on their investment.

To date at CBH, I have been given so many wonderful opportunities to grow and learn in an industry I had no exposure too. The roles I have held have held include the Compliance Advisor in the trading arm, and currently I work in the Accumulations team as the Product and Payment Coordinator. Plus I have been given the opportunity to participate in Next Crop (Leaders program).

Being part of the Accumulations team provides me with the ability to  return value to growers by recreating and enhancing our product suite. Every day is different, rewarding and challenging. Most importantly though I work with a team of people that live the CBH Values –  we deliver an exceptional service to our growers, but we always ensure we have fun along the way.

My favourite part about working in the Grain Industry is that every season is different and offers its own challenges, which I personally love and thrive on.
